win8

This afternoon at the D9 conference, Steven Sinofsky talked publicly about Windows 8 for the first time and was followed with a demo from Julie Larson Green. Without a live video feed, I sat and “watched” the show via Twitter as a cast of hundreds (it seems) live tweeted the even giving blow by blow coverage.

No doubt there will be much analysis in the hours, days and months to follow. For now, I’ll point you to the  Microsoft News Center and Windows blog. Be sure to check out the video on the News Center that shows the new user interface (or on YouTube) and head over to D9 as I’m sure they’ll post the interview with Steven very soon.

A fun day here in Microsoft HQ but lots of work ahead.

[update] it looks like the place to be if you want to hear more about Windows 8 will be the BUILD conference in Anaheim this September.

  • Hi Steve. Very nice UI. It was developed with silverlight on metro ?

  • I'm apprehensive about the lack of mention of Silverlight and WPF for building touch oriented applications. Some of us have invested heavily in these technologies. I'm using them heavily in work and personal projects, and I don't have the time or inclination to jump into the quagmire that is HTML5 and Javascript.

  • Hi Ricardo - yes, very Metro inspired and HTML5

  • I currently do not like Win7 welcome screen.  Looks OK for notebooks but not so much for notebooks.  Is there any way to turn it off?

  • when will windows 8 be released in india

  • Well, I can't find the appropriate place for this suggestion however I have an idea for something I would like to see in Excel. When using excel, there is really not a time that Im not using several tabs to organize data. I would LOVE the ability to see at least 2 tabs at once, kind of like a split screen. This would decrease the time it would take to search for information on different tabs and to get the chance to see the most important info I need to see at the same time. I think this could be a really popular feature for business professionals if done right.
