Ok ...  As discussed in the previous blog here I am again discussing about Virtualization.

Today I would like to talk about a test environment, a Hyper-V Lab.

So what would be an ideal Hyper-V lab to test out the different capabilities of Hyper-V R2, Clustering, Live Migration, management, deployment, rapid provisioning, and backup & recovery.

A self contained precise setup to run almost all implementations, test tools and applications.

So here as we can see 5 different servers

  1. Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise - Roles : Active Directory Domain Services, DNS Services, File Services, Windows Server Update Services, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Hyper-V(optional but good for stand alone setups)
  2. Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise - Roles : File Services, Hyper-V(optional but good for stand alone setups), iSCSI Software (e.g. Starwind)  System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 (VMM 2008 R2), System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM)
  3. Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise - Roles : Hyper-V, File Services, Features : Fail-over Clustering
  4. Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise - Roles : Hyper-V, File Services, Features : Fail-over Clustering
  5. Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise - File Services, Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1
