&lt;p&gt;Now I have to use a windows 7 workstation for another customer, it is tragic this behavior of reboot is still required for a lot of patches. I thought this was a thing of the past.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Great explanation in the article though, I have now reconfigured and also move the windows thing to a virtual machine on my Linux box, much faster reboots ;)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Or...Postpone the update.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Or if all else fails go.... into Start&amp;gt;Administrative Tools&amp;gt;Services&amp;gt; Windows Update&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Right Click and Click Stop. This will stop the update/reboot process.&lt;/p&gt;
