I have worked in the technology industry for more than twenty years and during that time I’ve seen many changes. I tend to see them as plot twists in a really good story reminiscent of one of my favorite television dramas, HBO’s “Game of Thrones. ” If you have not watched this show, it is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s superbly written series of fantasy novels about the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and their battle for the Iron Throne. Even if you’re unfamiliar with this series, I’m sure you can relate to the idea of plot twists as you conduct business in an industry where change is the one thing you can predict.
There have been many companies that rise to a place of prominence in the quest to secure their place on the throne of commercial and consumer customer acquisition, only to be dethroned. The pivotal component that secures that seat is how the company is perceived by the market, which often depends upon how successfully that company takes advantage of the twists and turns of the industry. I am very happy to say that Microsoft partners have historically excelled at meeting this fundamental challenge.
Now, we are facing a fundamental shift as it relates to four IT megatrends (twists, if you will) that can’t be ignored: mobility, enterprise social, cloud computing, and big data. If integrated with your business offering, they can greatly enhance your perception and profitability with customers. Partners who view these trends as opportunities to demonstrate the art of the possible by showing customers how they relate to their businesses and bottom lines will rise to the top.

When you recognize change in the IT industry as an opportunity to grow, you allow your business to move forward and write its own success story.
