ISV and developer recommendations

It is never too early to start thinking about how to sell your app. With the Windows Store, you can easily reach new customers. The Windows Store allows you to choose the business model that works for you, such as free, trial-based, or paid.

  • Free apps. Free apps can be a great way to drive downloads, and free doesn’t have to mean you can’t make money using your preferred ad platform.
  • Trial-based. Consider giving users a way to test your app by enabling trial mode functionality. We’ve seen trial versions increase app purchases an average of 10 times over apps without a trial.
  • Paid apps. Customers will be able to purchase your app in the moment with only a few clicks. Charge from $1.49 and up and keep 70 percent of total sale; you’ll receive 80 percent once your app reaches $25,000 in total sales. Read “Making money with your apps” on the Windows Dev Center.

If you are working with a customer that needs a way to deploy internal Windows 8 apps to employees, consider using sideloading, explained in an article on the Windows Store for developers blog.

If you’re just getting started, or are fine tuning your Windows 8 app for the Windows Store, now is the time to get the support you need. Visit Generation App for the tools and resources you need to get started.
