I’m back in my Bellevue, WA office today after spending last week in Washington, D.C. for this year’s Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference. I had such a great time meeting partners in the U.S. Lounge, where I spent the bulk of my time, as I worked the MPN booth, ran a couple of tweetups, tweeted and blogged live and in real time to keep U.S. partners informed about WPC activities, and even participated in a fun, somewhat impromptu webcast about using social media in business, put together by Dux Raymond Sy (@meetdux), and featuring a mix of Microsoft and partner participants, each with a unique perspective about how he or she uses social to meet and enhance business needs.
Based on many of the comments I heard from partners in person last week or through Twitter and Facebook (and those comments were from both attendees and from those who could not be in D.C. but who watched keynotes online), the value of both Conference content and networking opportunities really shone through this year. I think WPC 2010 felt more transparent this year—you could be at the vision keynotes in the Verizon Center and tweeting or texting with your colleagues watching them on the digital WPC site about key points. You could promote your Expo booth through the WW and US Facebook and Twitter communities and offer updates on swag and prizes. You could give Conference feedback and ask questions in real time online or come to the U.S. Lounge to get guidance on what to do to make the most of your time.
We are already starting to think about next year’s Worldwide Partner Conference, which will be July 10-14, 2011 in Los Angeles. We are planning to take many of this year’s best practices forward. While I think we have our own favorite things from this year’s Conference, I encourage you to take time to give us your thoughts about your WPC experience. Whether you go the “formal” route with the Conference Evaluations and post-Conference survey, post your thoughts on Facebook, or tweet out a WPC-related haiku, your feedback is helpful to us.
