iPhone iOS4 Devices Required to Install iOS 4.0.1

  • Comments 7

Apple recently released iOS 4.0.1, an update for the iPhone operating system. iOS 4.0.1 is available for iPhone users with iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 devices.

To deliver the best possible service experience, Microsoft Online Services is requiring users with devices running iOS 4.0.0 to update their devices to iOS 4.0.1 by July 29, 2010. Information about installing iOS 4.0.1 can be found in the Apple support knowledgebase, Article DL1061.

iOS 4.0.1 contains updates for several issues, including the configuration patch needed for iOS4 devices to use Exchange ActiveSync with Exchange Online. We reported about the configuration patch in a previous post to this Team Blog, and Apple confirmed the problem and remediation offered by iOS 4.0.1 in the Apple support knowledgebase, Article TS3398.

After July 29, users that have not updated iOS4 devices to iOS 4.0.1 will be unable to connect to Exchange Online via Exchange ActiveSync to send and receive email and synchronize message and calendar items. This only affects users with devices running iOS4.0.0; devices with previous versions of Apple iOS, such as iOS3, are unaffected.

  • So are iPod touch users that upgraded to iOS 4 left in the cold?

  • Hi subtlecoolness, iPod Touches running iOS 4.0.0 will not be blocked; only iPhone devices that are running 4.0.0 will be blocked. Thanks!

  • Why has BPOS Exchange on my iPhone 3Gs running OS 4.0.1 stopped working again today?

The last update on my iPhone was 12:09am Sunday, Sydney time and all day I have been getting the error message "Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed."

    This is getting ridiculous.

  • Hi - can anyone tell me why iOS 4 iPhones are going to be blocked?  So if any of my users don't upgrade from 4.0.0 by July 31 they will not be able to receive any new email / calendar updates, correct?

  • @Martin -- Your iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.0.1 should work when attempting to synchronize messages, contacts, and calendar items using Exhcange ActiveSynch with Exchange Online. I encourage you or the admin for your Exchange Online service to open a support request with our Tech Support team so we can track your problem and help troubleshoot for a resolution.

@lprimatello -- Only iPhone devices runnning iOS 4.0.0 will be blocked; and the reason for the block is user experience. As we talked about in the blog posts, iOS 4.0.0 has problems with the way Apple implemented Exchange ActiveSync, causing users difficulty synchronizing messages, contacts, and calendar items.. Those problems have been fixed in iOS 4.0.1. The iOS update is an easy install via iTunes.

  • Do you have any KBs on how to block IOS 4.0 users so I can do it at our org?

    thanks

  • I'm having problems with iCal connecting to exchange online now. Comes up with an error message saying can't refresh usdername@domainname.com.au. I'm wondering if this is related. Very frustrating as my computers can't access calendars but iphones will! Have escalated to Microsoft through Telstra here in Australia. Just wondering if anyone has similar problems.

    thanks.
