Today we have BIG NEWS for both Advisor and Operations Manager users!
Our team is proud to announce the release of the System Center Advisor Connector for Operations Manager Preview !
This connector enables Advisor to be an attached service to your Operations Manager deployment. With the Advisor Connector, you can use your existing SCOM agents and management servers to receive Advisor rules which collect and forward configuration data to Advisor. Advisor then process the data & generate appropriate alerts which can be viewed in your Operations Manager console.
The connector does not require manual certificate installation or separate agent & gateway downloads.
The download for the Advisor Connector Preview is now live at the Microsoft Download Center.
Please note that this preview requires Operations Manager 2012 SP1 Update Roll Up 2, which will be available on Microsoft Update today Tuesday, April 9th at 10AM PST.
Feel free to reply to this post with any questions or comments on the Advisor Connector Preview.
Thanks! We hope you can try it out.
Adding this to my todo list!
@Jeffrey Awesome! Let us know how it goes!
what's the ETA for a non-preview version? am i going to be able to install it over the preview version?
Why is there no Update Rollup 2 for VMM 2012 SP1?
@Curtiss - Final release will come this summer after we have a chance to gather feedback and make adjustments. You will definitely be able to install the final bits over the preview version.
I have OpsMgr <-> Advisor integration configured, and nothing is showing up in the OpsMgr monitoring console, even though I have servers being managed only by advisor. Do I also need to manage those server via OpsMgr as well? (The documentation doesn't specify)
@JD - yes, the servers need to be managed by Ops Mgr in order for the Advisor integration to work.
We have made some documentation update that will help with your configuration. Check it out: technet.microsoft.com/.../dn168861.aspx
(especially the section on "Configure the Operations console to display Advisor alerts")
Thanks for trying this out!
Just did created the connector in my Operations Manager environment after seeing some demo's on MMS 2013.
I updated the management server and agent to rollup 2. The connector works as I can see my management group in the Advisor administration console. When I added two SQL server the system center agent service starts to have problems and keeps stopping. When I remove these servers from Advisor it is stable again.
I got some alert from the Advisor rules so communication was ok. Events I see in the Operations Manager Event are:
If you need you can contact me for more information as I don't want to post this here.

Hope I can help you out on further improvement as I think this product has potential.
@Marthijn - yes, we would like to see the logs. Reaching out to you via email. Thanks!
For folks reading the comment section - we strived to make this Preview to be at final release quality and production ready by running it through significant amount of testing and tuning before release. We welcome any feedbacks to make it more robust and will reach out to investigate isolated incidents like the one mentioned above. Keep it coming & thanks for trying this out!
How long should it take for data to populate in advisor after installing and configuring the connector in SCOM? Is there any way to configure how often SCOM updates to advisor, or to manually force it to send data?
@Steve - Advisor scans and upload date once a day by default.
You can modify the upload time by modifying the regkey on the agent machines: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\System Center Operations Manager\12\Advisor]
Documentation on how to change the values can be found here: onlinehelp.microsoft.com/.../hh442889.aspx (note: the regkey paths for Advisor standalone and integrated SCOM/Advisor are different, but how to configure value for UploadFrequency, UploadDay, UploadTimeHour and UploadTimeMin are the same)
We are currently making a change to make agents & management servers to start uploading initial data set within 10 mins of opt-in to Advisor. We will be posting this update later this month.
I have installed the connector but on the few test servers I have added, I am receiving the following:
An error has occurred while adding a computer to System Center Advisor. Error Code(s): 4
Error Code 4: Agent installed in the selected computer does not include Advisor Attached Service functionality.
Seems my message was because I hadn't actually updated the Ops Mgr agent on the 2 servers with issues, oops!
