I've been looking for awhile for a good piece of software for home (and work desk for that matter!) security monitoring. You know the sort - it takes in webcam feeds and as it detects motion in the field of view it either starts snapping away with photos or records live video of the potentially offending person. I found Active Webcam on Cnet downloads. Eval period is 30 days.

The things I liked about it

  • Supports directly connected and remote IP Webcams
  • Supports upload to an FTP or webserver
  • Supports AVI video recording of motion
  • Supports scheduling
  • Really good interface to configure it with
  • Remote access/management capable
  • Controlled sensitivity zones for motion detection

I couldnt really find anything I didnt like actually. Check it out for yourself!

Have you tried DORGEM from SourceForge?

    Its a freeware webcam/securityish application.

It doesnt support movement zones, but does differential frames.
