Black Friday and Cyber Monday are all about buying. “Giving Tuesday” is all about giving. Based on the idea that there is one day for giving thanks and two for getting deals, New York’s 92nd Street Y partnered with the United Nations Foundation to create Giving Tuesday, which takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Microsoft is proud to be a founding partner of Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season, a day that encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.
Giving back to national and local communities is part of the Microsoft’s DNA. Microsoft recently commemorated its 30th year of the Microsoft Giving campaign, which launched in 1983. Through the Giving Campaign, the company has donated more than $1 billion to more than 18,000 organizations via the Microsoft corporate match program.
On Giving Tuesday, Microsoft will launch a major donor matching campaign on GiveforYouth.org – a new micro-giving portal designed to allow donors to fund and follow the dreams of young people around the world. Currently, there are more than 330 projects on the “Give for Youth” site from countries all over the globe including, Brazil, Ghana, Haiti, Uganda and the United States.
Microsoft encourages donors to be the spark of change for a young person. By visiting GiveforYouth.org and taking advantage of the company’s matching offer, these donations will give young people greater opportunities for education, employment and entrepreneurship. “Give for Youth” is a Microsoft YouthSpark program, in partnership with GlobalGiving.
Together with other corporations and nonprofits, Microsoft is dedicated to making Giving Tuesday a reality. Please help raise awareness and spread the word by tweeting about the campaign and including the handle @givingtues and hash tag #GivingTuesday and directing your followers to the Giving Tuesday website.
