Was trawling around a few blogs and came across this interesting article on Over-Time Pay For Reading E-mail on Your Blackberry at Home now it does strike me as amusing for the following reasons:
Please tell me someone hasn't forgotten the best button on these devices:
Hmmm seems someone forgot to tell the plaintiff in the above case that a little two way flexibility was a good thing?
Enjoy!
Problem is now for less than 100$ a month in most cases the employers expect you to respond everytime someone wants somthing. Once they know the device is on you shutting it off is like saying no to your boss. I am salary and if I say no it looks bad. So every time I dont call back, message, or pick up, it is my choice but the choice has already been made if I want to keep everyone happy and have a chance for a raise.
Thats why I am online at 11:30 on a holiday
Andrew - thanks for your comment. I guess it does depend on the type of boss you have and the level of responsibility they give to employees so that you can choose when is your best time to work. I have also heard of bosses using IM to ensure people are online when they say they will be - but for us here (thankfully) it's merely a tool to help you make better decisions and get instant feedback on ideas or thoughts. Interestingly, it also allows that virtual door to the virtual office to be always there helping to keep open the lines of communication. Good luck!
