Right so just a quickie to say I know the number of posts on HPC has been slow and I am absolutely aware of it! I have been working on some really cool documents from IBM, HP and Dell which will give their views and definitions of HPC as well as what they see as their uniques in the market. Just as I was about to post on them all they managed to rearrange their websites so that you wouldnt all be able to take advantage and send them to your customers etc
So stay tuned - they are on their way with a little help from my US friends!
Enjoy!

So very cool!
So today Bill Gates helped with the consumer launch of Vista at the British Library. One of the amazing applications he demonstrated under an hour ago was the turning pages application created by Armadillo Systems.
So get your hands on this fantastic application and see for yourself Leonardi da Vinci's work - turn the pages yourself and get up close and personal to some of the most fantastic works in history! Try it for yourself at the British Library site here:

For more on the application and how it was built by Armadillo Systems check out the following:

Seriously cool web 2.0 applications!
Redfin (a Seattle company - http://www.redfin.com) just switched their AJAX search site over to use the Virtual Earth platform. Not only is that cool, but they did a very nice write up of it compared to Google’s mapping software which they previously used - check out more here:
http://blog.redfin.com/blog/redfin/2007/01/redfin_...
Great site and really nice to see the differences charted by a customer who has used both, they commented as follows:
In the end the race was close as the platforms are very similar in many respects, but Microsoft Virtual Earth was the best fit for our requirements. The table below shows how they compare: http://blog.redfin.com/blog/redfin/2007/01/redfin_...
This post also caught my eye as a cool piece of work using IM etc: http://blog.redfin.com/blog/redfin/2007/01/seattle...

So just had a mail from Anne Wallace a friend who works over in Redmond and is an absolute mine of information. She was highlighting this whitepaper which could be very interesting if you have customers with offices in many countries:

Check it out another great techNet paper!
Just seen this great case study of the BBC and their Enterprise Search work with Microsoft. Some of the great quotes I liked were the following:
BBC Worldwide stated that:
"Searching for information on the Internet is easy, but searching enterprise data isn’t so simple because of the limited desktop tool set. For anyone to search for a single document from a total of 15 million files is unrealistic" “With Microsoft® Enterprise Search, we won’t need any specialist hardware, which would be necessary with a point solution. A major benefit is also that any investment made in search functions will now integrate easily with new Microsoft products such as Windows Vista™, which is the next desktop operating system we are planning to invest in”

Then just tell them it has been snowing - for some reason it only takes them 2 seconds to get out then :-)
This was the gorgeous view we had this morning:
Made me laugh all the way to the office!
