Friday, February 10th kicked off our 4th Startup Weekend beginning with an inspirational presentation from Babelverse.com about the year following the 3rd Startup Weekend Athens, the implementation of their idea, and the experience of participating and winning 3rd place at the Paris LeWeb ’11 Startup Competition. Pitches began and the auditorium is buzzing with ideas. By the end of the pitching session, the walls were full of ideas and attendees are asked to vote with the post-its on their favorite ideas. 15 teams take shape by the end of the evening.
Saturday and Sunday the teams work on their projects with the help of technical, business, legal and VC mentors.

During this same weekend, important decisions were being made in parliament about the IMF Memorandum and Greece’s debt obligations. This resulted in riots and the burn up of downtown Athens…images that made the it around the world…
At that time on Sunday evening the picture below was posted on Facebook:
On the left – Athens StartUp from Startup Weekend at the NIC auditorium.
On the right – Athens BurnUp from a burning in downtown Athens.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words…the comment reads that these two pictures demonstrate the two sides of Greece – the Greece that creates constructively and the one that destructs.
