Get Patent law changed to allow registration of patents that are there purely for the benefit of mankind in order to prevent future problems with the likes of patent trolls.

These could not be used to extort license fees but purely as evidence of 'prior art' to prevent anyone blocking future use of the inventions.

I'm sure an industry collective of Microsoft, Cisco, Apple and a few others could easily buy a number of politicians to sponser such a change in the law, the RIAA and MPAA appear able to do it.
