Weekend Reading: Imagine Cup Finals Start

It's a big weekend - and not just because most of us in Redmond have a long weekend for the 4^th of July holiday. In Warsaw, students from around the world are converging for this year's Imagine Cup, our annual technology competition. This year some 325,000 students took on the challenge of solving big global problems as outlined by the United Nations Millenium Development goals. Some student projects already are making progress in meeting those goals. Look for stories on the finals this Thursday.

In other news this week (aside from the Netherlands' 2-1 shocker over Brazil in the World Cup on Friday):

Monday we saw a big change when MSNBC unveiled a new design. The site represents a new way to serve up news and information - one that's more graphic and offers better storytelling.
We've had lots of Xbox news in recent weeks. Here's an excellent interview with Ryan Moore, Xbox worldwide product marketing manager, about the new Xbox console and Kinect.
Last month we released Microsoft Office 2010 to the consumer market. It wasn't just a company effort - thousands of users contributed ideas and feedback. Wired tells that story.
Windows Azure continues to gain momentum. Silicon.com kicked the tires on the cloud-based application and spoke with Bob Muglia, president of our Server and Tools Business.
Finally, in case you missed it, have a look at Frank Shaw's blog post of a week ago in which he walked readers through some interesting numbers about Microsoft. That post led to a lively discussion on the web.
