10 Things Your Business Portfolio Should Have
Credibility is one of the most important things you need to establish in order to attract clients to hire your services or use your product for the first time. Showcasing your skills and capabilities as a professional and as a company through an impressive and factual business portfolio will help you in building your credibility. Having all the right information present in your portfolio can turn this into a dynamic and effective tool to communicate to your target market what you and your company can do for them.
So what should your portfolio contain? Here is your checklist:
Provide an overview of what your company is about. This information is useful in introducing your company to potential clients who may not be familiar with your business. This section should discuss your company’s history, its founders, a detailed description of what your company does, the number of employees, locations you serve, and what purpose your business serves on the current market.
Your business portfolio should also contain information regarding your educational background and credentials. Include college or vocational training programs you have completed, courses taken, and degrees or certifications you have earned.
Every company should create its mission statements, objectives, and a list of values and standards that will serve as its guide in their business decisions and transactions. This will give your target customers an idea of what they can expect when doing business with your company, and can build trust and attract your potential clients and investors
The most important part of your business portfolio would be the section for your products and services. It is very important to provide a detailed description of your offerings, such as product dimensions, material, colors available, benefits, and any precautionary measures needed when using the product. It is also best that you show images of each item, in different angles if possible.
Aside from your products and services, you should provide relevant images all throughout your portfolio. A gallery can also be included, showing customers using your product, pictures taken from trade shows, and before-and-after photos showing the improvements or effects of your products or services. It is recommended that you hire a professional photographer to take pictures so that these would look appealing when included in your portfolio.
Boost your company’s market appeal by discussing your companies achievements - sponsorships for local events, rewards or recognition the company has received from magazines or foundations, initiatives the company has started to help those in need, and accreditations by prestigious organizations within their field. Include supporting documentations and photos to add credibility to the information that you are sharing.
Enumerate your affiliations with major corporations or prestigious organizations that are related to your industry. Outline your involvement or position within the group. For instance, if you are in the construction field, mention any affiliations you may have with the United Construction Workers Association. If you have more than one affiliation, list them all.
Another great way to prove your value to potential clients is through testimonials and references. Get feedback from past and current satisfied clients or business associates, and show these on your portfolio. Ask them to write a short paragraph or two regarding their experience with your company and products. Also ask for their consent to include their contact information for new clients to contact them for references.
Aside from great positive feedback from very satisfied customers, you can also share their success stories. Provide details on how your product or services has helped them and on what particular features and benefits they experienced from these.
Provide your complete contact information – your business address, telephone numbers, email address, fax number, and website address. Also, for online portfolios, include a contact form that your reader can use to send an inquiry. Make sure to ask for just a few important information, such as their name, email address, and contact number. Asking for a lot of details may discourage them from sending theirquery.
