I recently sat down at the 2010 NAB Show with Fred Dawson of ScreenPlays to discuss how some of our solutions, specifically around digital content management, are enhancing the way that M&E companies operate.

As media and entertainment companies continue to look for ways to provide content across multiple channels to their consumers, Microsoft is playing an integral role in helping improve internal efficiencies. For example, we’ve developed an entire Digital Content Management Framework based on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. This framework has proved very successful in providing companies with enhanced content management and collaboration, advanced workflow capabilities, new search technology and enhanced metadata management and business intelligence – ultimately enabling those companies to accommodate multi-device distribution and provide their consumers with a superior end-user experience.

In addition, we’ve made several enhancements associated with the release of SharePoint 2010, like incorporating Silverlight, our popular cross-platform development tool as well as Rough Cut Editor (RCE), a real-time, cross-platform, cross-browser video and metadata editing solution which has been integrated into SharePoint workflows. For more on RCE, check out our blog post here. Lastly, FAST search has also been integrated into SharePoint 2010 and is an excellent enterprise search solution which allows companies to quickly find relevant content.

While the trend of consumers wanting content anyplace, anytime and on any device isn’t going to diminish, this is an exciting time for our industry and we at Microsoft couldn’t be more excited to help partners and customers navigate this new environment.
