In part 1 of this series we went through the deployment prerequisites, prepared the servers and prepared the environment for the deployment. In this part we will go through the planning tool, topology building and the server deployment.
1. First we need to create the necessary DNS records, we need the below records:
Default SIP domain
_sipinternaltls
lyncse.mbdomain.ad
Meeting URLs
meet.mbdomain.ad
10.1.1.40
Administrative access URL
admin.mbdomain.ad
Proxy internal interface
tmg.mbdomain.ad
10.1.1.1
Phone access URL
dialin.mbdomain.ad
2. The next step will be creating a simple internal only topology using the planning tool and export it to the central store using the topology builder. Using the planning tool I selected the Getting Started option
And used the below parameters:
Audio and Video Conferencing
Yes
Dial-In Conferencing
No
Web Conferencing
Enterprise Voice
Call Admission Control
Monitoring
Archiving
Federation
High Availability
Network Connection
Shared WAN
So my Central site will look like that
3. Then in the next page I added mbdomain.ad as my SIP domain as shown below
4. For the Bandwidth capacity planning, I changed the profile to be light (it’s a labJ) and left the rest as is
5. Skip the branch office page as it’s only one central site
6. For the External user access, I selected No since I’ll build this lab with no external access then I’ll discuss enabling the external access later in another series…
7. Click Draw and here is the topology
8. Double clicking my site showed the expanded topology as below
9. Now to export our topology to the Lync topology builder where we will modify few parameters and then export the topology to the central management server… Select File, Export, Export to Topology Builder
10. We need to import the topology using the Lync topology builder. Select the ‘Open Topology from a local file’ and choose the lab topology
11. As you see there are few points that needs attention and they are marked in Red-X
12. Expand the File Stores and Edit the configuration to use the Lync Server share that we created before
13. Now we need to configure the administration URL by editing the Lync Server 2010 (RC) root object from the left hand pane, click Simple URLs, under Administrative access URL type https://admin.mbdomain.ad
14. So now you should have the below
Now with the configuration in the builder we need to publish the configuration to the management server.
15. From the Lync root object select ‘Publish Topology’
16. Select Next
17. Ensure that the pool is the correct one and then Next
18. And finish
In the next part, we will deploy a local configuration store with the published configuration in the central management store on our Lync server.
Dear Mbaher,
I'm very new with Microsoft Unified Communication. I want to configure the Lync Server 2010 in my company but I never use and implement it. I'm very new. could you details how to edit the sample topology (edit ip address and server name)?
Hi Khemarin,
First note that Lync is stll RC, i'd advise you wait and till RTM to deploy it for your company... Regarding your question, you can edit the IP address and server names using the Lync planning tool or within the topology editor
I have installed on Lync Pool. During the topology build, i have selected SQL Server Instance (SQL Server 2008 Sp1) and it created all require DB during the publish. When i have started installtion through Deployment wizard, first step was Install Local Configuration Store. I select Run and it install a local Copy of SQL 2008 Express Edition. What's the use of this ? What is the use of DB created on SQL Server ?
I am able to logon to Lync Client but just wondering about this.
I advise you go through the published Lync documentation, you will find details about the process and why it is needed. You can find them here technet.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx
Yes, I will implement Lync Server 2010 in 2011. I need to test before i'm implement with my production. I need read more document and video. Do you have any idea share to me?
Thanks
you will find all what you need here technet.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx
Also look on http://lync.microsoft.com

plz how can help me?
Hi
The first step in Part2 is confusing to me. I'm not quiet sure if I'm following you about creating DNS, Can you please elaborate on this step for me
I to am confused about the first step. Can you explain the labeling as to what is what? Your screenshots are the best exept for this very first step doesn't have a screenshot of the DNS entries.
Thanks for this guide. I get to step 17 and get an error. looking at the log it shows:
Error: An error occured: "System.UnauthorizedAccessException" "Access is denied. {Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))"
This is running under the main global domain admin account.
Any suggestions?
