I have been blogging in Finnish for some years now (http://blogs.technet.com/markohot) mainly because there is already so much great content available in English but not so practical presentations on Microsoft Data Platform solutions in Finnish. I have also published some demo videos in YouTube to showcase the Microsoft Data Platform Technologies and solutions. I was encouraged by my colleagues to start blogging also in English and maybe publish some demos in English. So that's what I decided to do and I am now announcing my English blog at http://blogs.technet.com/markohotti

I am pretty realistic about blogging. I am a busy guy and there are often times when I just simply don't have time to write much in my blogs. But I do have a lot of ideas about how Microsoft Data Platform can help both the business users and the IT departments to solve their problems in Mission Critical, Big Data, Predictive Analysis and Data Mining, Business Intelligence, Master Data Management as well as in other solution areas. I love doing demos and being very practical about difficult topics such as Predictive Analysis or Big Data. So YouTube videos are a great way of sharing my ideas and showing things in practise.

I will use the English version of my blog mainly for the announcements of new English YouTube content that I have produced. The first one in the series will be about the challenges Enterprises face with the SMP architecture of a traditional data warehouse. There is a lot of new data coming in every day and there are also new expectations from the business users every day to do ad hoc queries, analyse the data, maybe combine new data sources in their self-service BI scenarios etc. Predictive Analysis and Data Mining are also solution areas which are growing rapidly. Traditional BI is about analyzing what happened. It is about the history of the business transactions that we store in a data warehouse. Today customers are looking for solutions for data mining and predictive analysis in order to be able to analyze the conditions and the phenomena that preceeded the business transactions. So we need more data such as sensor and web log data, different data feeds etc. The traditional data warehouse is not very practical to store all this data and it may become very expensive as well. This is the reason why Microsoft is now talking about the modern data warehouse architecture, combining two massively parallel processing Technologies such as Hadoop and SQL Server 2012 Parallel Data Warehouse through Polybase and getting easy access to these new data sources in in-memory self-service BI.

In my YouTube video you will hear my view and thoughts about the challenges in data warehousing and how the modern data warehouse architecture which also includes Apache Hadoop can solve the problem of Big Data. I will show you how to deploy Hadoop in Windows Azure and how to use Hadoop together with SQL Server 2012 Parallel Data Warehouse without any MapReduce coding. I will also load 600 million receipt lines directly to the data warehouse in a few minutes - and run adhoc queries against 10 billion rows of sales orders in just a few seconds.

I hope you will find the demo part very informative and useful. I am a perfectionist and there are some minor demo "effects" in the video which are not related to the technology itself. But I hope you can forgive me. :)
