It’s been time for our Sharepoint lover in Manila, Elczar P. Adame, to play around a bit more with MOSS 2007. I blogged about his IIS 7 project back in January and after that he has been testing MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008 as well. His latest project was to try out Microsoft Forefront Security for Sharepoint.

Elczar is one of our Community Heroes in Philippines and now also the vice-president of PHIWUG he is deeply committed to sharing knowledge with the community and his main objective for trying our Forefront was, in his own words, “to explore and help the community in implementing a comprehensive security product designed to protect Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 from malware and inappropriate content”.

After testing it he thinks it gives an additional protection layer on top of the built-in SharePoint security features and through its multiple antivirus scanning engines, it delivers an additional protection level for SharePoint that other security product cannot offer. He strongly believes that Forefront Security for Sharepoint is essential in every Sharepoint implementation.

He has blogged and created demo videos for some of his key learning’s:
SharePoint File Filtering in ForeFront
Keyword Filter Installer in ForeFront for SharePoint
SharePoint Keyword Filtering in ForeFront

I also asked him why he recommends other IT Pros to try out Forefront Security for Sharepoint and he said:
Security must be one of the components that an IT Pro should consider in implementing Windows SharePoint Services or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.  Unfortunately, traditional security products are not capable of delivering appropriate security for SharePoint.  A security solution that is exactly intended for SharePoint is necessary. Thus, going for ForeFront Security for SharePoint is a must for IT Pros.

Elczar did this project as part of the IT Pro Momentum program where you get access to managed forums, trainings and support. If you're interested in trying out any of our new technologies like Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Forefront, please drop me an email.
