One of the members of the Windows Server 2008 Insiders group in Philippines has now a finished a project I want to share withelczar_adame you.  Elczar P. Adame is a senior technology consultant in ApSmith Solutions Corporation. They have around 50 employees, servicing 20 clients.

For the last couple of months, Elczar has tried out Windows Server 2008 for an internal pilot project. He has developed an Employee Information System that describes basic facts about employees’ history, educational background, trainings etc. The reason he wanted to do so was to see how well Windows Server 2008 and especially IIS 7.0 integrated with ASP.NET and Windows Communication Framework. Configuration, administration and diagnostics were also something he wanted to see how it was improved in the latest version of Windows Server.

He can already see a lot of benefits of IIS 7 compared to IIS 6 and the project really taught him all there is to know about IIS 7! The main benefits he sees are:

  • The IIS Manager are more user friendly
  • You get a numerous diagnostic tools including Worker Processes, Failed Request Tracing and Detailed Error features
  • Possibility to manage your Web sites and application pools through Windows PowerShell
  • The capability to host non-Microsoft language Web application through FastCGI
  • APS.NET features, like forms authentication, could now be applied to any content types, including asp, html, and php pages.
I asked him why he thinks other IT pro should go for Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7.0? Because it is the next-generation technology for Web development, hosting, and management.

After his successful pilot project, the company now wants to implement it in production. Elczar also blogged a lot about his project and he has already started to explore how a MOSS 2007 implementation would work on Windows Server 2008. Stay tuned for more information about that!
