How to have separated ‘sent items’ folder in shared mailbox in Outlook 2007 and 2010 (Exchange Server 2007 or 2010)?

For Outlook 2010, find the two Workarounds as below:

1. Use outlook 2010 in cache mode and check for the following registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences
Value name: DelegateSentItemsStyle
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

When the value is set to 0 or the value name is missing, the Sent Items will be stored in your own Sent Items folder (Note: Make sure you have
added the additional mailbox to your mail profile and that you have at least Reviewer permissions on the mailbox level and Author permissions on the Sent Items folder)

2. For Outlook 2010, you can also add the additional mailboxes as an additional Exchange account for this to work. However, this requires you to have full mailbox
access rights for the additional mailbox (this has to be set by your Exchange administrator). You can then select it as a sending account and will be sending the message
“as” that mailbox instead of “on behalf of” that mailbox.

Change Exchange Database Log Prefix

Suppose you want to change the Exchange Database Transaction Log Prefix, from E01 to E08 for example. Without create new database and move Users’ Mailboxes to it.

You can achieve that for any exchange version by using ADSIEDIT.

Note: In general we don’t recommend doing the changes from adsiedit, so you have to take extra attention and try to repro it in lab first.

- First, you need to make sure that E08 is not use by any other database in the environment.

- You will dismount the database where you want to change the log prefix.
Make sure that status of database is in clean shutdown state by run eseutil /mh nameofdatabase.edb.

- Move all logs only to another location. Database (edb) file will be in same location.

- Go to adsiedit.msc -> configuration -> services -> Microsoft exchange -> Organization name -> administrative group -> Exchange administrative group -> Databases -> right click on database name and then properties -> change the value of msexchESEparamBaseName to E08.

For exchange 2003 and 2007, you will right click on storage group name and change same value.

- Wait for replication to complete, or force replication.

- Finally, Mount database, new sequence with E08 will be created.

Getting an error when you open Exchange Management Console/Shell

When you open exchange Managment console or shell on exchange 2010, you may get an error as below

Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client sent a request to an HTTP server and got a response saying the requested HTTP URL was not available. This is usually returned by a HTTP server that does not support the WS-Management protocol. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

The main issue for this error related to Powershell virtual Directory is removed on IIS of the affected server.

To fix this issue, You need to recreate the PowerShell VD by using Windows PowerShell by run

New-PowershellVirtuallirectory -Name PowerShell

You need to load the exchange Snap-in in order to run the exchange command from Windows Powershell by run:
Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010

When I run the above command, I got error "The Windows Powershell snap-in 'Microsoft.exchange.Management.powershell.E2010' is not installed on this machine"

Found that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PowerShell\1\PowerShellSnapIns\Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010 is missing on affected Machine..
I exported from different server.. and imported to affected machine..

And then I am able to run the New-PowershellVirtuallirectory command successfully and new PowerShell VD get created.
we are able to open EMC and EMS successfully..

Exchange 2010 store.exe service takes high memory utilization.

We usually receive questions that Exchange service (store.exe) is using most of the memory on a mailbox server.

The behavior you see on the mailbox servers for store.exe is completely normal. This is in order to allocate as much data in memory address space as possible, so that each user experience great performance in their Outlook clients.

If another process should need the more memory, the Exchange store.exe process will released it as required. This is by design.

By default, the msExchESEParamCacheSizeMax key is not set, which means the store can allocate the memory it needs dynamically. ESE (store.exe) will grow the cache to consume almost all available RAM on the server if there is no other memory pressure on the system For example, if the server contains 16gb physical memory, if there is no other memory pressure, one could expect that the store.exe process will grow to use up to 14gb memory (16gb minus 2gb allocated to Kernel mode). This much larger database cache size results in greatly reduced disk I/O, and is preferred anyways, as reading information from memory is much faster than reading information from disk. If memory pressure occurs, as when other applications request/require memory, ESE will appropriately shrink the size of the database cache. It’s not recommended to modify the msExchESEParamCacheSizeMax attribute of the information store object. Lowering this value may degrade performance, in terms of server performance as well as in terms of end-user experience.

Unable to install exchange 2010 (directory response: 00000057: LdapErr: DSID-0C090C3E, comment: Error in attribute conversion operation, data 0, v1db1")

The requested attribute does not exist.

Solution

Administrator did some changes to some schema attributes as below:

“isDefuct” value for “Ms-exch-Active-Syn-Devices” and “ms-exch-accepted-domain” are set to true,
we changed them to Not set..

Also Maycontain values for Msexchaccepteddomain were missing.

User Unable to see Sent Items Folder on Outlook and OWA

Symptom:
Sent items folder is not showing for the user from Outlook and OWA.
Folder may visible if user use OWA light version..
This apply for Outlook folders such as: Junk Folder, Deleted Items, etc..

Cause:
PR_ATTR_Hidden attribute for Sent Items folder was set to true

Solution:
1) Install MFCMAPI then close Outlook.. You can download MFCMAPI from http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=35656
2) Click on the Session menu and select “Log on and Display Store Table”. (This prompts you for your Outlook profile)
3) Double click on your mailbox in the top pane. It will open new box, if it is not open, just right click on your mailbox store and click open store..
4) Expand Top of IPM_SUBTREE then find and select the sent items folder - Check for PR_ATTR_HIDDEN attribute.

5) If it is set to True, then right click on it, click on edit Property and uncheck the checkbox, which set it to False.

6) Then launch Outlook and you should see the sent item folder back.
