Distinguishing between concepts in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012: state vs. status

In this blog entry we take a closer look at how we apply the concepts named state and status in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

We apply the term state to represent the condition of a system or process. If workflow is enabled, you can track the state of a process. For example, you can track a sales process that might be in an on-hold state when a customer has exceeded their credit limit.

We apply the term status to represent the condition of an object in a system or process. For example, you might see a column labeled Status on the Purchase requisition form. If the purchase requisition is in review, we would write that the purchase requisition status is in review pending its verification and approval in the review process.
