Craig,
The Magnavox DVR doesn't appear to have a CableCard slot. I would not be able to record and playback all of the channels I receive from Verizon FIOS.
The other problem is the 160GB hard drive. My TiVo Series 3 has the ability to record 90 hours of HD content. The Magnavox would not meet the family recording capacity needs.
Might be a cool solution for over-the-air recordings though.
im new to tivo, but i pre-ordered the premiere at Tivo Premiere
i was a little concerned about the memory, but 45 hours of HD should translate to at least double regular definition, right?
45 hours of HD is more like 3 times SD. 45 hours is a lot of HD programming. If you were following 15 different programs like Lost, Castle, Medium, etc. then you would have three weeks of shows.
Or about 6 full length movies.
I have slightly over 100 hours of HD recording space with my TiVo Series 3 and the extra external hard drive I added. It's a pretty reasonable amount of space for my family.
