Accessibility–Technology for Everyone

Accessibility–Technology for Everyone

For over 20 years we’ve worked hard to develop technology for everyone. Therefore we design our services with accessibility in mind, including both accessibility settings built into programs and specialty assistive technology products. For instance ‘Outlook Web Access’ in Live@edu has a setting for ‘Low vision users’ that enable screen readers such as JAWS to work well.

Commonly used standards that we consider in our design and development include Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and WCAG. We've published VPAT templates (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template). The VPAT demonstrates how our product meets (or doesn’t meet) each of the Section 508 standards.

Finally, Microsoft employs a large number of individuals with accessibility needs who are either directly involved in the development of accessible features, or who volunteer their time to test.

Can you tell I’m very proud of the work we do here ;-)

  • Yes, we can tell. I wish I would have know about this site a long time ago. It would have saved me money, time and headaches. Good, valuable inforamation!

  • I agree Tammy, it has happened to me one too many times. Luckily this time it was one of the few sites I visited first.
