  • excellent write-up I have successfully migrate from exchange 2010 sp3 to exchange server 2013 cu1, All Mailboxes and public folders, and all using are fine with there mails  but I'm facing two issues. without fixing these issues I can't uninstall the exchange server 2010

    1. when i'm trying to delete public folder database i'm getting the following error The public folder database ‘PF-BR-01′ cannot be deleted.

    PFDB01

    Failed

    Error:

The public folder database “PFDB1″ contains folder replicas. Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database. For detailed instructions about how to remove a public folder database, see go.microsoft.com/fwlink×409."

    2. when i'm trying to delete default mailbox database getting following error “mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes or arbitration mailboxes”

when i'm trying to move exchange 2010 arbitration mailboxes to exchange 2013 it does not support this .

please any help on this really appreciate

    Thanks

  • Hi Gagan:

1.You can use ADSIEdit.msc to delete Public Folder store.

Navigate to your configuration container. Expand to services, Microsoft Exchange, your org name, admin groups, servers, locate your FE server, expand, Expand information store, and storage group that houses your public folder store. On the right pane, delete the public folder store.

2.Firstly , you can use "Get-Mailbox -Database 'Mailbox database name' -Arbitration" to show these hidden arbitration mailboxes. Then you can choose delete them use "Get-Mailbox -database 'mailbox database name' -Arbitration | Remove-Mailbox -RemovelastArbitrationMailboxAllowed:$True" or move them to Exchange Server 2013 mailbox database. Move them is supported.

Now, you can uninstall your Exchange Server 2010 servers.

    Enjoy!

  • Thanks for the quick response. i'm still getting one error related to OAB while uninstalling the exchange server 2010. do i need to delete exchange 2010 OAB

  • Hi Gagan:

Do you try this : technet.microsoft.com/.../d0faeb2a-79d3-4ded-aa40-20f3b187b414.aspx

1.Open EMC, navigate to Organization Configuration->Mailbox

2.Select the tab Offline Address Book tab(right pane), Right click and select Move and select the mailbox server to which you wish to move the OAB and click on Move button.

3.Continue the same if you have multiple OABs available.

  • Thanks again, But when I'm trying to move exchange 2010 OAB to exchange 2013 its saying target server not exchange 2010 organization. means I can only move to exchange 2010 not to 2013 any help please advice

  • Hi Gagan:

In Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010, you use the Move-OfflineAddressBook cmdlet to move the OAB generation to another Mailbox server. Exchange 2013 supports only OAB (version 4). This is the same version that was the default in Exchange 2010. You can’t configure Exchange 2013 to generate other OAB versions, and the OAB generation occurs on the Mailbox server on which the organization mailbox resides. Therefore, to move OAB generation in Exchange 2013, you must move the organization mailbox. You can only move the OAB generation to another Exchange 2013 mailbox database. You can’t move OAB generation to a previous version of Exchange.

  • thanks,  i'm stuck at exchange 2010 decommission steps, do I simply delete exchange 2010 OAB and start uninstall of exchange server 2010, all mailboxes and public folders are migrated to exchange 2013 and every thing is working fine. what do I do to uninstall the exchange server 2010 stuck on

    Mailbox Role Prerequisites

    Failed

    Error:

This Mailbox server is responsible for generating an Offline Address Book. Removal of the Mailbox role is not permitted

    any advice

  • what is the password of PDF file?

  • Hi

Please use Adobe Reader X or above version to open.

  • Create a new OAB in 2013 ( guess 2013 creates one at installation ) and remove the old OAB. Able to remove role after that. Worked for me

  • thanks for sharing such great info, i would have chosen this way if my server was live but alas my exchange 2007 was not working so i had to migrate using old & unmounted database. So i move all exchange database into pst files and imported pst files into exchange 2013, all done with the help of (www.pcvita.com/edb-converter.html).

  • thanks

  • Nice article, it explained that how to upgrade from Exchange server 2007 & 2010 to Exchange 2013. I found automated utility from http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com which allows to migrate exchange server to another live exchange server without facing any difficulties. This tool migrate multiple mailboxes from one live Exchange Server to another live Exchange Server and MS Office 365.
