  • Configuring Office Web Apps Server communication using HTTPS

         Hi all :

Office Web Apps Server can communicate with SharePoint 2013, Lync Server 2013, and Exchange Server 2013 by using the HTTPS protocol. In production environments, we strongly recommend that you use HTTPS. In test environments that contain no user data, you can use HTTP for SharePoint 2013 and Exchange Server 2013 and skip the certificate requirement. Lync Server 2013 supports only HTTPS.

Certificates that are used by Office Web Apps Server must meet the following requirements:

    • The certificate must come from a trusted Certificate Authority and include the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your Office Web Apps Server farm in the SAN (Subject Alternative Name) field. (If the FQDN is not in the SAN when you try to use the certificate, the browser will either show security warnings or won’t process the response.)

    • The certificate must have an exportable private key. On single-server farms, this option is selected by default when you use the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager snap-in to import the certificate.

    • The Friendly name field must be unique within the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities store. If you have multiple certificates that share a Friendly Name field, farm creation will fail because the New-OfficeWebAppsFarm cmdlet will not know which of those certificates to use.

    • The FQDN in the SAN field must not begin with an asterisk (*).

    • The certificate properties and extensions do not matter. For example, customers have asked us whether Client Enhanced Key Usage (EKU) extensions or Server EKU extensions are required. Office Web Apps Server requires no particular certificate property or extension.

When you installed Office Web Apps Server, you need to request a valid certificate. Now I will to show how to request a OWA certificate.

         1. Logon to ADCS server, open the Certificate Template Console, right-click Web Server and click Duplicate Template :

         2. Enter a Template name , and select Allow private key to be exported :

          3. Click OK to create it, then issue this template:

         4. Logon to Office Web Apps Server, open the Certsrv website :

          5. Click Request a certificate --- advanced certificate request --- Create and submit a request to this CA --- Advanced Certificate Request page , select just created template and enter a certificate name and a Friendly Name :

6.Click Submit>, then click Install this certificate on the Certificate Issued page:

           7. Then use New-OfficeWebAppsFarm cmdlet to create the Office Web Apps Server farm by HTTPS:

Note : The URL that you specify for -InternalURL is the FQDN name of the server that runs Office Web Apps Server. The URL that you specify for –ExternalURLis the FQDN name that can be accessed on the Internet. You must specify the friendly name of the certificate by using the –CertificateName parameter. The –EditingEnabled parameter is optional and enables editing in Office Web Apps when it is used together with SharePoint 2013. The –EditingEnabled parameter is not used by Lync Server 2013 or Exchange Server 2013 because those hosts do not support editing.

          8. Last , access https://server.contoso.com/hosting/discovery to verify that the OWA server farm was created successfully, if Office Web Apps Server works as expected, you should see a Web app Open Platform Interface (WOPI)-discovery XML file in your web browser :

  • Migration from Configuration Manager 2007 to SC2012 Configuration Manager RTM

       Hi All :

Because of the design changes that were introduced in Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, you cannot upgrade an existing Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 infrastructure to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager. However, you can maintain your existing investment when you migrate to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager and use the built-in functionally within System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.

When you migrate from Configuration Manager 2007 to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, you can access data from the site databases that you identify in the Configuration Manager 2007 infrastructure and then transfer this data to the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager hierarchy. Migration does not modify the data in the Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy, but instead discovers the data and stores a copy of it in the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager database. You can migrate some or all of the supported data from a Configuration Manager 2007 site to a System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site. You can also migrate the data from a single Configuration Manager 2007 site to several different System Center 2012 Configuration Manager sites, or you can move data from multiple Configuration Manager 2007 sites to a single System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site.

Benefits of Migrating to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager :

When you migrate your Configuration Manager 2007 site infrastructure, you retain your existing management information and gain the following benefits from System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.

    BenefitMore information

    Native 64-bit code

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager is a native 64-bit application.

    Site database improvements

The System Center 2012 Configuration Manager database supports full Unicode.

    Database replication between sites

Replication in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager is based on Microsoft SQL Server, which improves the performance of site-to-site data transfer.

    User-centric management

Users are the focus of management tasks in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager. For example, you can distribute software to a user even if you do not know the device name for that user. Additionally, System Center 2012 Configuration Manager gives users much more control over what software is installed on their devices and when it is installed.

    Hierarchy simplification

The new central administration site type in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, as well as changes to the behavior of primary and secondary sites let you build a simpler site hierarchy that uses less network bandwidth and requires fewer servers.

    Role-based administration

This central security model in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager offers hierarchy-wide security and management that corresponds to your administrative and business requirements.

  • You Need to Know : How to configure System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager Pull-Distribution Point

       Hi All :

Beginning with Configuration Manager SP1, you can configure a distribution point that is not on a site server to be a pull-distribution point. When you deploy content to a large number of distribution points at a site, pull-distribution points can help reduce the processing load on the site server and can help to speed the transfer of the content to each distribution point. This efficiency is achieved by offloading the process of transferring the content to each distribution point from the distribution manager process on the site server. Instead, each pull-distribution point individually manages the transfer of content by downloading content from another distribution point that already has a copy of the content. A pull-distribution point can only obtain content from a distribution point that is specified as a source distribution point.

Pull-distribution points support the same configurations and functionality as typical Configuration Manager distribution points. For example, a distribution point that is configured as a pull-distribution point supports the use of multicast and PXE configurations, content validation, and on-demand content distribution. A pull-distribution point supports HTTP or HTTPS communications from clients, supports the same certificates options as other distribution points, and can be managed individually or as a member of a distribution point group. However, the following configurations are exceptions to support for the pull-distribution point:

    • A cloud-based distribution point cannot be configured as a pull-distribution point. Similarly, a cloud-based distribution point cannot be used as a source distribution point.
    • A distribution point on a site server cannot be configured as a pull-distribution point.
    • The prestage content configuration for a distribution point overrides the pull-distribution point configuration. A pull-distribution point that is configured for prestaged content waits for the content. It does not pull content from source distribution point, and, like a standard distribution point that has the prestage content configuration, does not receive content from the site server.
    • A distribution point that is configured as a pull-distribution point does not use configurations for rate limits when it transfers content. If you configure a previously installed distribution point to be a pull-distribution point, configurations for rate limits are saved, but not used. If, at a later time, you remove the pull-distribution point configuration, the rate limit configurations are implemented as previously configured.
    • A distribution point that is configured as a pull-distribution point does not use the Retry settings for content distribution. Retry Settings can be configured as part of the Software Distribution Component Properties for each site. To view or configure these properties, in the Administration workspace of the Configuration Manager console, expand Site Configuration, and then select Sites. Next, in the results pane, select a site, and then on the Home tab, select Configure Site Components, and then select Software Distribution. The following sequence of events occurs when you distribute software to a pull-distribution point:
      • As soon as content is distributed to a pull-distribution point, the Package Transfer Manager on the site server checks the site database to confirm if the content is available on a source distribution point. If it cannot confirm that the content is on a source distribution point for the pull-distribution point, it repeats the check every 20 minutes until the content is available.
      • When the Package Transfer Manager confirms that the content is available, it notifies the pull-distribution point to download the content. When the pull-distribution point receives this notification, it attempts to download the content from its source distribution points.
      • After the pull-distribution point completes the download of content, it submits this status to a management point. However, if after 60 minutes, this status is not received, the Package Transfer Manager wakes up and checks with the pull-distribution point to confirm if the pull-distribution point has downloaded the content. If the content download is in progress, the Package Transfer Manager sleeps for 60 minutes before it checks with the pull-distribution point again. This cycle continues until the pull-distribution point completes the content transfer.
    • To transfer content from a source distribution point in a remote forest, the computer that hosts the pull-distribution point must have a Configuration Manager client installed. A Network Access Account that can access the source distribution point must be configured for use.

The attached document will to show you how to installing and configure a DP being a Pull-DP.

  • You Need to Know : Cumulative Update 3 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 released

       Hi All :

CU3 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 released, you can download it from MSFT Support website. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2882125/en-us

This update adds support for Windows 8.1-based client computers in Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1. Windows 8.1 is added to the supported platform list for the following features:

    • Software distribution
    • Software update management
    • Compliance Settings

     Issues that are fixed

    Operating System Deployment

This cumulative update includes the following updates:

Additionally, this cumulative update fixes the following issues:

    • The reimaging of an existing client computer may result in a policy being invalidated. This issue can occur if the SMS Agent Host service restarts before all Data Transfer Service (DTS) jobs are completely processed. Additionally, the PolicyAgent.log file on the reimaged client will contain entries that resemble the following:
[CCM_Policy_Policy5.PolicyID="ScopeId_GUID/Application_GUID/CA",PolicySource="SMS:PRI",PolicyVersion="1.00"] is pointing to invalid DTS job [{DTS_JOB_GUID}]. Will attempt to re-download.
    • Install Application Task sequences may take longer to complete if they are run from stand-alone media instead of a local distribution point. This issue can occur when multiple task sequences use large content files (for example, several hundred megabytes).

    Windows PowerShell

This cumulative update fixes the following issue:

    • The Add-CMDistributionPoint cmdlet incorrectly sets the value of the ServerRemoteName parameter to the name of the first installed site server. This issue could lead to clients accessing content on the site server instead of the intended distribution point server.

    Software Distribution

This cumulative update fixes the following issues:

    • Modern applications deployed to users of Windows 8 computers may fail if a non-administrator is logged on and has mapped a network drive. The AppDiscovery.log will contain entries that resemble the following:
In-line script returned error output: Attempting to perform the InitializeDefaultDrives operation on the 'FileSystem' provider failed.
    • A deployment created at a child primary site and then deleted from the central administration site may remain active on the child primary site.
    • A pull-distribution point may crash when it tries to download packages. The PullDP.log stops recording any activity when this issue occurs.
    • Packages migrated from Configuration Manager 2007 to 2012 Configuration Manager may not download to pull-distribution points unless the Update Distribution Points wizard is used. Error messages that resemble the following are logged in the PullDP.log file:
CPullDPPkgJob::LoadJobFromXML() could not load any content jobs from XML!
CPullDPPkgJob::LoadJobFromXML() could not fully load job! Malformed or incomplete XML. Job has failed.

    Windows Intune

This cumulative update fixes the following issues:

    • An ampersand (&) character in the Company Namefield of the properties of the Windows Intune subscription page prevents the creation of policy files. Additionally, error messages that resemble the following are logged in the Policypv.log file:
XML Parsing: line 2, character 315, illegal name character
    • The TEMPDB folder for a site database may grow quickly after "Windows Intune Subscription and Connector" is enabled.

    Endpoint Protection

This cumulative update includes the following update:

    Site Systems

This cumulative update includes the following update:

Additionally, this cumulative update fixes the following issue:

    • An update to the MCS.msi file does not upgrade the Multicast Configuration for Distribution Points. See the System Center Configuration Manager Team blog for more information about this known issue .

    Reporting

This cumulative update fixes the following issues:

    • Reports are not displayed when a user does not have EXECUTE permission on the fnGetSiteNumberobject. When this issue occurs, you receive errors that resemble the following:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for dataset 'FirstMatchingAppOrCollection'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'fnGetSiteNumber', database 'database_name', schema 'dbo'.
    • Computer Activity Data is missing from Power Management reports for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 clients.

    Software Updates

This cumulative update fixes the following issue:

    • Software Updates for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 may have the Downloaded value incorrectly set to No on child primary sites, although the value is set correctly to Yes on the central administration site. This issue occurs because of a replication timing issue.

  • System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager RTM managing system protection

       Hi All :

System protection aims to protect you against two scenarios – one where your computer starts, but you have lost system files and registry; and the other where the computer does not start and you have to recover everything. System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) enables you to protect your computer against both these scenarios.

In the past, disaster recovery entailed rebuilding a computer from scratch. This meant installing the operating system, applying updates, installing applications, and then finally recovering data. This was a laborious and error-prone method. DPM saves you the time and trouble of rebuilding your system.

In DPM, System State protection consists of protecting the operating system files, and bare metal recovery (BMR) protection consists of protecting the operating system files and all data except user data on critical volumes.

DPM uses Windows Server Backup (WSB) to perform System State backup and BMR backup. For recovery, DPM will retrieve the backups and you will use the backup data to perform recovery by using WSB.

    Prerequisites

    • Windows Server Backup installed on the protected computer for BMR.
    • Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) for BMR.

    Unsupported Scenarios

The following scenarios are not supported for BMR:

    • Computers running Windows Server 2003.
    • Computers running client operating systems like Windows XP or Windows Vista or Windows 7.
    • A DPM server cannot protect itself for BMR.
    • Disk-Tape protection is not supported for BMR. However, long-term to tape with short-term to disk (D-D-T) is supported.

Now , i will to show how to protection system status and implementing bare metal recovery .

Create a protection group for a server that protected target , and select Bare Metal Recovery under System Protection node , the System State will be selected at the same time :

on the Select Data Protection Method step , enter a protection group name , and select your protection method , Disk or Tape :

and finish this wizard , the recovery point will start creating :

Waiting some minutes , backup finished :

Now , i will recovering BMR (Bare Metal Recovery) , on the Recovery workspace , select any System Protection recovery point , and then click Recover on the Ribbon :

The Recovery Wizard Review Recovery Selection dialog box appears :

On the Specify Destination dialog box , assign a path that store recovered files :

       And finish recovery :

Now , i will to recovery this BMR to bare metal server . start up a bare metal server throw the Windows Server OS image :

On the install windows step , click Repair your computer , and will into Re-image your computer step , assign BMR files path (this path should be a network path):

and will start to recover this Windows Server OS :

Waiting about 15-40 minutes , recovery finished . Restart and logon this OS , you can see recovery successfully :

More detail steps , you can reference the attachment document !

  • How to enable Windows Server 2012 R2 New Feature Work Folders

       Hi All :

With Work Folders users can store and access work files on personal computers and devices, often referred to as bring-your-own device (BYOD), in addition to corporate PCs. Users gain a convenient location to store work files, and they can access them from anywhere. Organizations maintain control over corporate data by storing the files on centrally managed file servers, and optionally specifying user device policies such as encryption and lock-screen passwords.

Work Folders can be deployed with existing deployments of Folder Redirection, Offline Files, and home folders. Work Folders stores user files in a folder on the server called a sync share. You can specify a folder that already contains user data, which enables you to adopt Work Folders without migrating servers and data or immediately phasing out your existing solution.

This Document will to show how to enable Work Folders feature in your enterprise.

  • System Center 2012 SP1 Configuration Manager integration with App-V 5.0 operation document

        Hi All :

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager supports the management of virtual applications that are created with Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V). When you use Configuration Manager to manage App-V applications, Configuration Manager takes over the management and streaming components of a typical App-V infrastructure.

When you use Configuration Manager to manage virtual applications, you gain the benefits of using a single management infrastructure. You will also gain the benefits of scalability, deployment, and content distribution features, such as collections and user device affinity, and additional advanced application management features that Configuration Manager provides. App-V also integrates with Configuration Manager features, such as operating system deployment, software and hardware inventory, software metering, and Asset Intelligence to support virtual applications.

To deploy virtual applications to computers, you must have the Configuration Manager client and App-V Client installed on your computers. Client devices can include desktop and portable computers, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) clients. The Configuration Manager and App-V Client software work together to deliver, locate, and launch virtual application packages. The Configuration Manager client manages the delivery of virtual application packages to the App-V Client. The App-V Client runs the virtual application on the client.

Now, System Center 2012 SP1 Configuration Manager fully support Application Virtualization 5.0, this document will to show you how to integrate Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 with App-V 5.0.
