As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I am delivering a private, newsgroup-based, Microsoft-sponsored training for Microsoft MVPs. We are reaching the end of the first of five parts of this training, covering Course 6042: Windows Server 2008 Installation and Management (see course description). At the end of each course I pose some questions to the students for discussion. Here are the questions for Course 6042:
01) What do you need to do if you do not provide a product key during setup and there’s a KMS server on your network?02) Name at least 4 conditions that would prevent Windows Server 2008 from offering "Upgrade" as an option during install.03) What are the four basic items that need to be configured on a Windows Server 2008 server as soon as you finish installing it?04) Windows Server 2008 no longer has an “Add and remove components” control panel. What should you use instead?05) Name 5 common roles and 5 common features for a Windows Server 2008 server.06) How can you tell what are the dependencies for a specific role in Windows Server 2008?07) What is a single command line that can show all roles/features currently installed for a Full server install of Windows Server 2008? In Server Core?08) What MMC do you use to configure disk partitions on server running Windows Server 2008?09) What are the two most important components missing on a Windows Server 2008 Core install compared to a Full install?10) What is only tool that exists in a Windows Server 2008 Core install but not in Full install?11) Name two different command line tools that can show all disk volumes on a Windows Server 2008 server Core install?12) List at 5 different methods to remotely manage a Windows Server 2008 Core install.13) You need to report on events coming from 10 web servers running Windows Server 2008. What’s the simplest way to accomplish this?14) What types of event logs exist in Windows Server 2008 but not in Windows Server 2003?15) What is the Windows Server 2008 stability index and how is it calculated?16) What tool can quickly tell if and when an application has been crashing on Windows Server 2008, without looking directly at event logs?17) You check your reports on the Performance tool and they are empty. What should you do?18) Users tell you a server performs poorly late at night when you’re not in the office. How would you troubleshoot the issue?19) What kinds of triggers and actions can you configure on in Windows Server 2008’s task scheduler?20) What is the main difference between PowerShell and the regular CMD.EXE command shell?
If I have time, I will post answers in September, after the training is completed.
