Here are some interesting tidbits for someone that's not patient enough to read the two word documents describing the new formats and the enhancements they will bring:
The new file formats are royalty-free and Microsoft expects that to make it easy for partners to provide tools that can manipulate these Office files.
By the way, none of this is even in beta yet....
