Our live event content this quarter includes System Center Configuration Manager 2007 and this has been a common question: “Is SQL 2008 supported as a site database?”

The Answer

Absolutely!!!!!    SQL Server 2008 is now supported on Configuration Manager 2007 RTM and SP1!

What Do I need to do to the Site Server?

In order to upgrade a site-server database to SQL 2008 you must first apply a hotfix.  Which one depends on what version of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 you’re running:

What if its a clean install of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 ?

That’s a little more complicated.  If you’re performing a clean install of SCCM using a SQL Server 2008 database, depending on whether is RTM or SP1, you will have to do the following steps:

Clean install of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 RTM:
    • NOT SUPPORTED
      1. First, install SQL Server 2005
      2. Upgrade to SQL Server 2008
      3. Apply hot fix KB955229
Clean install of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1:
    • SUPPORTED
      1. Apply hot fix KB955262

  • What about SCOM and SCE support?

  • SCOM 2007 - SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2

SCE 2007 - SQL Server 2005 (SP2 required for running on Windows Server 2008)

  • I have problems installing sccm 2007...

here is the snippet of the log file...please advise asap.

  • You might want to check this KB article, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104, or place a support call on this.

  • I have downloaded that file about 5 times and still get the same error. It seems the hash checks fail all the time.

also, i have an x86 system, dnt really know why i need this file. anyway, is there any one who has actually passed this part. if so how?

i have tried installing sccm 2007 sp1, i reach the same place...

i have searched the net to no avail....please help me as im running out of time

  • Hi everyone,

i have successfully installed sccm 2007 and its server roles. i have 1 computer connected on my domain but i cannot find it. its is already joined on my domain and shows up in the active directory users and computers console.

when i go to discover it using all the discovery methods i fail. it only shows the site server. is it me or is there a fix. my boss doesn't recomment network discovery bt i still tried it but to no avail.

shd i just force it with computer associations or what?

  • HI everyone,

I posted yersterday, but it hasn't shown up yet.

i was asking about discovery on sccm. i have enabled all the discovery methods but i cannot see a client on my collections list. i have extended my ad schema but to no avail. i really dnt kno what im doing wrong....please shade some light

  • i solved this problem by going to tools tree node just under system rights, and started the configMgr services. It opened a console inwhich i queried and started the discovery services.

    it worked like a charm...

now, im having issues with client push installation. i have a snippet of the ccm.log file and want to know what im doing wrong
