TechNet Events: Windows Vista SP1 Promotional Kit - Can I Use The Product Key on 64-Bit Version

Many of you have attended our live TechNet events around the country and received the Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Promotional Kit, which came with 32-bit media.  You may recall I posted some information earlier this month talking about the Expired Pin Problems many of you were experiencing.

Since then I have been asked if the product key received after registering the PIN can be used with 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate.

Here's the GOOD news....YES it can!!!  If you have access to Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit media that product key will work!!

Remember though....

The key will ONLY work on Windows Vista SP1 media.  If you try to use the key on RTM media it will NOT work for either 32 or 64-bit.

  • I can't get it the site to work for me to get a key?  I just got the opportunity to setup a system to install this software and the site won't work to give me a key?

Could you help I have my PIN and the media but the site only lets me put in my contact info and then it doesn't go forward.

  • Hello John,

The site on the inside of that folder holding the copies of Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 and Windows Live services are bust for being able to obtain a product key.  I let the folks at microsoft.catalyst.com know about the problem.

Here's to crossing my fingers that this Promotional Copy doesn't bite me in the ass, eh?  I have 30 days before I won't be able to use it (and I can guarantee that no one else has had access to or would have been able to try the PIN included in the handout).

  • I checked the website out today, and it works fine for me.

If you're having problems with the PIN, send it to me and I'll see what I can do.

  • I tried obtaining the product key for Vista Ultimate promotional kit (DVD obtained at the TechNet seminar) today but the site does not go past the 'Create Profile' screen. I tried filing in the form many times but I am unable to move forward.

    Any ideas?

  • I had a few comments   and some emails this weekend that many of you were having problems registering

  • Had problems last weekend?  Check http://blogs.technet.com/johnbaker/archive/2008/10/28/problems-over-the-weekend-with-registering-your-pin-for-windows-vista-ultimate.aspx

Everything should be OK now.  Try registering again.
