Following on from yesterdays post about Home Networking with Windows Home Server, I thought this Technical Brief  on how to remotely access your system would be useful.  The thing is I'm not just talking about you remotely accessing the shared folders on the Windows Home Server, but you being able to remotely access the Windows Home Server Console so you can make configuration changes such as adding users or creating new shares.

How About Accessing Computers in My Home Network?

Not a problem.  After logging on remotely to the Windows Home Server, you can then connect to your home computers and run applications, just like you can when you are sitting in front of that computer.

The supported operating systems are:

• Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
• Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
• Windows XP Tablet Edition with SP2
• Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Business, or Windows Vista Enterprise

What about Windows Vista Home and Home Premium editions?  They're not supported because they don't have the Remote Desktop Connection feature.

As you can see over on the right, the Remote Access configuration isn't too complicated and should be fairly straightforward to setup
