Wow!  What a week it’s been.  Hot off the heels of the Windows 8 launch last week; today we have announced the release of Windows Phone 8.  This release is a major milestone for us in that it’s a perfect match for a Windows 8 PC.  I’ve loved Windows Phone for a long time and especially since we launched Windows Phone 7.  I love the fact that it’s not the same as an iPhone or Android device.  To me those interfaces look dated; whereas Windows Phone is fresh and current.

Windows Phone 8 takes this to a whole new level and introduces a bunch of new features and some killer devices.  Some of which are pictured in the photo above and below.

This truly is a ground breaking release which adds a bunch of new features.  Here are some of my favourites.

  • Multi-Core Processor Support – Windows Phone 8 now shares the same code base with Windows 8 which unlocks support for phones with multi processors.
  • More Flexible Storage – Support for removable MicroSD cards is back and supported!  Awesome!
  • NFC Wireless Sharing – Let’s phones with this new wireless standard share files over short distances!
  • New Start Screen – I love the current Start Screen in Windows Phone 7'; but with Windows Phone 8 it just gets better.  The best thing is it’s more about you and how you personalise it.
  • Kids Corner – Now my kids can use my phone and not mess around with the settings.  They can have there own space for games and other apps.
  • Rooms – Create custom group of people that lets you privately share calendar’s, notes and other information just with them.

I don’t have a Windows Phone 8 so can’t go into too much more details so I thought the video below would help.  Check it out!

It’s an exciting time and I can’t wait to get my new phone very soon!
