Yahoo finance has a story "10 reinvigorating facts about Microsoft's profits.":
The writer opens "I have written extensively about Microsoft's problems" ... and goes on "Microsoft last week announced quarterly revenue of $14.4 billion and net income of $4.93 billion... Do some quick math and you'll learn it takes Microsoft only about...
He concludes for a dead company, Microsoft's profits certainly look lively.
Dead ? I think I've covered that before.
Dead? No? Dying? Perhaps.... Often when someone says "Microsoft" is dead, it's their perspective based on opinion and not necessarily on fact. E.g. Vista, too little too late? WinXP, you had your chance and blew it? XBox 360? No idea, don't own one.
I don't know that I want to see Microsoft die but I do want to see them trip and stumble. IMO they need a kick up the arse to make them see that their best days are most likely behind them. If they don't lose the arrogant attitude and significantly improve their products then they will wither and die.
Just my opinion, so take with lots of salt.
