I came across this cool application which uses the new AJAX capabilities in .NET.  "Atlas" as it's called allows the browser to make requests for information in the background without affecting the user's experience.

In the example I found, Atlas is being used to fetch tiles of map as you scroll around.  The application also fetches traffic information from the BBC's RSS travel feeds and overlays any jams or accidents.  Now I can quickly check if there's going to be a delay when I commute to work - cool!

Tim Almond is using the RSS feed in a different way in his Python based application for mobile phones.  His app only fetches information on the M4, i need this for my Smartphone!  I wonder what I'm going to be doing tonight! :-)  http://www.timalmond.com/fetch-m4
