Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 is now available for download. I started using it this morning and have been impressed with the speed. It has a whole lot of new features including Compatibility View (handy for those sites designed for older browsers), Web Slices, Search Suggestions, Accelerators to name a few. It has some Security changes which include the SmartScreen Filter, Cross Site Scripting (XSS) Filter, Domain Highlighting and Data Execution Prevention. One feature I like is the Live Maps Accelerator. You select a address on a page and right click to select the ‘Search with Live Maps’ to see the Map on the same page. I used this to check the location of a restaurant I was checking out.

Thanks to Nick Hodge for the heads up about the release of Photosynth. This is one piece of amazing technology. Have a look at what Nick has conjured up with Photosynth with his photos of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can now do the same and make your own. Verdiem has released a new energy monitoring application called Edison. Microsoft and Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI) support Edison as a easy way for consumers to become active to reach the CSCI’s goal of reducing global CO2 emissions from the operation of computers by 54 million by 2010. COOL UPDATE: Just found this out, you can actually play your Live Mesh Music Collection for your Live Desktop within the browser! Its using Silverlight to stream the music. As I popped out for my Lunch Break this I decided to buy the latest Weezer Album from my local JB Hi-Fi store. I have a work and home PC and normally I would have to Rip the album two different times into two different libraries which I find annoying. I have a Music Folder on my Live Mesh on my work and home PC's which I have added to my music library in Windows Media Player. I changed my Ripping location to my Mesh Music Folder on my Work PC. After I Rip the album I can see the little Live Mesh Icon in the tray flashing indicating its uploading the album to my Live Mesh.
When I get home and load up Media Center, Weezer is ready for me to go. Very nice. You're not going to load up your whole music collection because the Community Technology Preview has a 5GB limit but its great to have a couple of gigs of music on your Live Mesh so you can access it from anywhere.
