It's my pleasure to introduct myself to you. My name is Bruce and I'm in charge of authoring SQL Hotfix KBs globally. For our process a cumulative update package for sql server 2005 will be released bimonthly. Our technical guys will triage the hotfixs which will be put into the package. Currently cumulative update 5 for sql server 2005 sp2 was released on Dec 18, 2007 (http://support.microsoft.com/KB/943656). The newer rollup package will contain all fixes that were included in all prior rollup packages. Also, the rollup package is smoking tested.
Can you tell us what Microsoft's strategy will be with releasing Service Packs for SQL Server in the future.
Seems to be some confusion about what's happening.
