The Windows Home Server web site was updated today to a new look and feel, and over the next few weeks/months additional content, links and other great stuff will be added to the site.  The new look and feel and site map is close to being finalized.  The home page, now has pages for:

  • Home Users
  • Enthusiasts
  • Partners
  • Developers
  • Press

...to help different people quickly find what they are looking for.  I would love to have people comment to this blog post - how can we make it better?  What additional information / stuff would you like to see ?  The home server team is listening.

  • Very good overall.  One suggestion:

In the FAQs, the first reason given for why WHS is better than NAS is,

"More than just storage, Windows Home Server uniquely provides pre-defined shared folders, such as "Music" or "Photos" making it easier to organize and find your files."

WHS is much better than NAS.  I wouldn't lead off with "pre-defined folders" feature.

  • I'm a very visual person and the first thing I look for with a new product is *screenshots* but I can't find a single one.  I'd like to see a picture of the WHS box, screenshots from the Admin Console, etc.

  • All in all it is a much better site than before but I agree with the previous comment, more graphics, maybe a simple network diagram showing PC, X-Box,server, and router. Also, why the download link in the partner section? It points to Connect, where there are no downloads.

  • On the buy page (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/buy.mspx) the picture shows a man on an Apple Macbook... is that right?

  • I think it would be a great idea to add 'guided tour' video's on key functionality. The guided tours should not focus on the technical side but on functionality and possibilities only! Show the people some good real-life examples. Keep it stupid simple! It will work..

  • Under "For Partners" the "Get the code" link points to Connect.  As a registered MS Partner how do I get access to download the code?
