Questions for Joe Kane interview at CEDIA

The big CEDIA show is this week and weekend, and I’ll be doing an audio interview with industry luminary Joe Kane of Joe Kane Productions. Joe’s had a long history as an advocate for better video and audio quality for consumers, and our interview will  focus on HD DVD, VC-1, and where the industry stands in bringing that great video and audio quality to the home.

But in time-honored blog tradition, we want to make sure we’re asking the questions you want to hear the answers to. So, suggest some questions via a comment below by Friday evening. We’ll pick the best handful for our conversation with Joe.

  • How long before we see Video Essentials for HD DVD?

  • Looking forward to it!

Please ask Mr. Kane about the lack of native, "untouched" 1080p/24 output with HD-DVD players. A Toshiba executive even mentioned that "1080p/24 output is not part of the HD-DVD spec. and is therefor not supported"...

What is his take on eliminating ancient 3:2 pulldown judder and giving us the the 24p encoded content in its native form? Why is HD-DVD as a format ignoring the significance of getting rid of pulldown judder and does not natively support the latest generation of 24Hz/48Hz capable display devices?

  • Is Mr. Kane ready to share some information about his upcoming DVE: HD-DVD edition calibration disc?

  • Joe -

Any comments on storing HD on 1080psf format as opposed to 1080p/24?  Do you think it makes any difference?

  • Well done, I look forward to reading the blog!

    A question for Joe Kane.

    Q. Is there anything you wish the new next-generation formats would have included to improve picture quality that was left out? 10 bit processing, or something of that nature, for example?

  • Looking foward to some insightful posts about VC-1 and HD DVD.

  • As promised, here’s our first audio interview, with Joe Kane of Joe Kane Productions. I sat down...

"I saw a website advertising software that's supposed to give you free satelite TV on your PC. The program costs $40, but they claim it lets you watch hundreds of live worldwide channels free of charge. Sounds too good to be true... is this a scam?"
