&lt;p&gt;I can't really speak for Adobe, but I think it's fair to say that given the thousands of free tools out there that create PDF documents, it seems a little silly to argue about at this point. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

It was numbered "3". I pasted it into Outlook, which renumbered it "1". &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;It's harder to communicate using MS Office tools when the tools themselves take charge. OK - it's really the decisions made by the programmers that were realized in the code. &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;It's been 20 years and auto-numbering doesn't work right. Sigh.
