The 2014 awards season carried on its red-carpeted momentum with the Grammy Awards Sunday night, and as usual, there’s plenty to buzz about in its aftermath. Bing monitored spikes in searches throughout the show and found that they reflected trophy winners, for the most part.
Although Taylor Swift failed to take home any golden sippy cups (thanks Jay-Z, for that new way to look at the Grammy trophies!), her silver Gucci gown did capture 70 percent of red carpet fashion searches (focused on the metallic look that dominated the evening), followed by Chrissy Teigen, Ciara and Rita Ora.
Katy Perry’s performance of “Dark Horses” -- which looked like a scene out of a witch’s dream with its crystal balls, brooms and pyrotechnics (as you can see above) – created the largest spike in searches from the night.
Mash-ups galore were also a theme of this year’s Grammys, and those featuring Daft Punk, Stevie Wonder, and Pharrell Williams’ riveted the most attention. Their performance captured 30 percent of the searches among collaborations followed by Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons with 21 percent. The Daft Punk duo’s silence caused a flurry of searches for “Daft Punk faces,” “Daft Punk unmasked” and “what does Daft Punk look like.”
Other top spiking performances (in order): Lorde’s “Royals,” Taylor Swift’s head-banging “All Too Well,” Pink’s acrobatic “Try” and the mass wedding ceremony hosted by Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Queen Latifah and Madonna
