The “R2 Wave” grew a lot closer on Wednesday with the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Server 2012 R2. These milestones are always exciting for the product teams; however, they’re particularly proud of this release says Corporate Vice President for Windows Server and System Center Brad Anderson, because it delivers “a lot more than just one year’s worth of innovation since the release of Windows Server 2012!”

This RTM is a little different from previous releases in that Microsoft will not provide access to software via MSDN and TechNet. Anderson explains in a post that, “Because this release was built and delivered at a much faster pace than past products, and because we want to ensure that you get the very highest quality product, we made the decision to complete the final validation phases prior to distributing the release.” And remember, Oct. 18 is just around the corner.

Anderson adds that the next update to Windows Intune will be available with the rest of general availability, and that they are also on track to deliver System Center 2012 R2.
