The Openness @ Microsoft blog reports that a growing number of historically open source customers are embracing Microsoft technologies. Caixa Economica Federal bank in Brazil recently joined the group.
Caixa wanted to revamp their IT systems to “support growth, accelerate decision making, and take advantage of the transformative benefits of cloud solutions and mobile integration,” according to the Openness @ Microsoft blog. They also needed their new solution to work with existing IT investments that included open source software. Microsoft technologies fit the criteria.
Caixa chose a set of Microsoft solutions that includes Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 and Office. They have seen significant cost savings, as well as efficiency gains for their 118,000 employees and 3,000 branches, from streamlined communications to improved mobile productivity.
“I believe this will revolutionize the way we work at Caixa,” said Marcelo Xavier, IT consultant at Caixa.
Over the course of a year, Caixa migrated 140,000 mailboxes, nearly 40,000 desktops to Windows 8, and 100,000 users from ISA Sever to Forefront Threat Management Gateway Server.
Caixa reports that the Microsoft solutions integrated well with their existing IT, including their legacy and open source solutions, such as OpenLDAP, Expresso Email, Apache Web server and PostGreSQL.
