Excel is a humble yet mighty hero in the software pantheon. You can use it for everyday tasks like family budgeting or to create extraordinarily gorgeous artwork – and now companies can use Excel to access self-service business intelligence using a new solution called Power BI.

“Customers now have the ability to easily search, discover and access data inside and outside of their organization and, with just a few clicks, shape and transform that data,” wrote Ari Schorr and Seayoung Rhee in a jointly authored Office 365 Technology blog post this morning.

“They can also analyze and create stunning interactive visualizations that uncover hidden insights to share and collaborate from virtually anywhere, on nearly any device.”

Pricing information is not yet available.

Customers can register now for the preview version of Power BI that will be available later this summer. To learn more in the meantime, read the Office News blog announcement, Office 365 Technology blog’s post with additional product details and the SQL Server Blog post.
