I just posted a new article describing the process to install the VSS Hardware Provider (and, incidentally, the VDS Hardware Provider) for the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target, which is part of Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003 (WUDSS 2003). Check the post, which includes information on how to use vssadmin and diskshadow to verify and use the newly installed provider, at Installing the VSS Hardware Provider for the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target on Windows Server 2008.

  • Hey filing cabinet team, can you please tell if the Vista defragmenter is written from scratch completely in-house at Microsoft? :-)

  • The XP defrag software is derived from a code that was purchased from a third party company.

Vista defrag was based on XP defrag, and has been substantially revised by Microsoft.
