    Danut Moraru's Biography

I am originally from Romania. I was supposed to become a surgeon, but when I was close to apply to the medical school, I put my hands on a Sinclair Spectrum Z80 just to play ... then build my own computer from scratch ...then wrote more serious programs. The change in carrier was inevitable, to my parents' disappointment. While studying CS, I've been a Linux administrator (in 1994, the industry didn't hear about this OS yet) and member in the first team to bring Internet to...

Adding our Blog to your Sharepoint site

Here’s a handy tip for any Windows Sharepoint Services (WSS) aficionados out there… how to add a simple Blog web part into your team site. Firstly, look at the top right of your WSS site – you should see a “Modify My Page” or “Modify Shared Page” link – click on the drop-down and you should be able to select ‘Add Web Parts’ then ‘Browse’. If you navigate to the end of the list of the team web site gallery, you should see the basic ‘XML Web Part’ which is part of the standard...

    Just what is your address?

We're all pretty familiar with the common SMTP address - spam@make.it.go.away.com . And a lot of folks are happy with just one or two of these. But if you've migrated any users lately, setup cross-forest with MIIS, or if you've just tried to reply to someone who's “left the building”, you've  probably seen some strange looking addresses, and/or odd address types. Something like: x500:/o=<org name>/ou=<site name>/cn=Recipients/cn=<alias> Or perhaps...

    Ted Kolvoord's Biography

Hi out there! I'm a tester in the Exchange Group. Mostly I focus on issues having to do with interopability between two or more Exchange forests. MIIS, GALSYNC, Transport, ExchSync, are all areas I have looked at in the recent past. But at various times, I've had to use/debug/setup just about every Exchange related product since 5.5. Previously I've worked on the build team, owned the Dogfood lab (an internal production lab where we put our code into production in pre-Beta...

    Bryan Atwood's Biography

My name is Bryan Atwood and I am a tester on the Exchange product team. Everyone here calls me batwoo—it’s what my account alias ended up being when you cram Bryan and Atwood together with only 6 characters. There could be worse nicknames. I’ve been testing Exchange for 6 years now and have experience with Exchange 5.5, 2000 and 2003. Except for a short stint testing our Migration Wizard, I’ve spent all of my time on Setup. Setup really is a whole lot more...

What are those two checkboxes on my connection agreement for anyway?

If you do any work with migration/coexistence from 5.5 to 2000/2003 you may have noticed that when configuring a recipient connection agreement in the Active Directory Connector (ADC) console that on the From Windows tab there are two somewhat mysterious checkboxes at the bottom of the tab. Replicate secured Active Directory objects to the Exchange Directory: For security reasons the ADC does not (by default) replicate any objects from AD that have a deny ACE (access control...

    Need to compare text files?

VERY often in troubleshooting Exchange problems we have to compare two files - such as different logs, LDP dumps of objects, CSV exports, DSACLS dumps, registry exports etc. While there are several tools out there that can do this (Windiff, for example) - few people know that Microsoft Word can do the same thing too. Here is how... Launch Microsoft Word. Open up the 1st file to be compared and then go to Tools > Compare and Merge Documents. Point to the second file. Word will...
