With SharePoint 2010, you might run into an issue when attempting to create a new PowerPivot Gallery Document from PowerPivot gallery, like this:
If you encounter this issue, you may then see the following to errors:
The reason for the error is that SharePoint is looking for the template .xlsx file in the wrong location.
To resolve the issue:
Then upload a template.xlsx file to the Forms folder. You can do this by creating a new workbook in Excel and saving the blank workbook as template.xlsx in the Forms folder. Now the path to the template.xlsx file will be correct, and you shouldn’t get any errors when creating new PowerPivot Gallery Documents from PowerPivot gallery.
When I am trying to select "Open With Explorer", I am getting following error
"We're having a problem opening this location in File Explorer. Add this web site to your Trusted Sites list and try again."
I added my website into browser trusted site list, still getting the same error
Can you please let me know the steps to resolve this.
Thanks in Advance
The issue that you're seeing seems like more of an issue with basic SharePoint functionality. One thing you could try is to log into SharePoint as the Farm Administrator, and then try to click on Open with Explorer. If even that does not work, then I would recommend that you coordinate with your own internal SharePoint Admin team to move the Forms folder into the ReportGallery folder, or if the Forms folder does not exist, to create a Forms folder in the ReportGallery folder, and then locate that template Excel file there.
I hope it helps,
Is the template already available in the folder BEFORE you create a new document or does it create it on the fly?
I ask because I get the error in this thread but I do not see a template file available.
And thanks for the advice.
grace's problem with Open with Explorer can be overcome by running ie as administrator. I do not know of other ways of resolving - at least this is the case with sharepoint 2013 sp1.
I have the same question as steve regarding the template. where is it? how do I get it if it is missing? where should the reportgallery folder be? please don't say the powerpivot gallery folder because that doesn't work in sp 2013 sp1. is it created as a result
of some other installation than business intelligence center? after adding the powerpivot gallery app, the folder is completely empty.
Steve: You will need to upload the template.xlsx file. Just open a new workbook in Excel, and save the blank workbook as template.xlsx in the Forms folder.
Tony: In SP 2013, try going to Library Settings, click the PowerPivot Gallery Document under Content Types, click Advanced Settings, and try uploading a new document template, which should basically be a blank Excel workbook named template.xlsx.
Zakir's solution works and its the most simple one!
