&lt;p&gt;I was thinking of building with solar to charge a battery pack wired into the whole package, but I thought I would need some sort of a bypass diode. &amp;nbsp;What do you think? &amp;nbsp;I'm doing this in baby steps...I may use a panel to feed the battery charger - that seems like a safe and easy way to go for me, but I would need to invest in a bigger pannel than I have in my basement at this time. &amp;nbsp;I've got my eyes open at the dump for old solar gardening lights! &lt;/p&gt;

The solar can be added later, no additional circuit necessary as long as the panel is low powered.&lt;/p&gt;
