The Server Administration chapter of the upcoming Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book provides information about how Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software stores and manages configuration data in the Central Management store and how to work with role-based access control (RBAC) roles. This chapter is being developed. It describes how the Central Management store provides a more robust, schematized storage of the data needed to define, set up, maintain, administer, describe, and operate a Lync Server 2010 deployment. With Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software, configuration data about servers and services is moved to the Central Management store. The Central Management store provides a more robust, schematized storage of the data needed to define, set up, maintain, administer, describe, and operate a Lync Server 2010 deployment. It also validates the data to ensure configuration consistency.

The Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) are still used to store basic Lync Server user information, such as the user’s SIP URI and phone number. User policy information is stored in the Central Management store. The use of Active Directory also provides backward compatibility with earlier releases of Office Communications Server.

To administer servers and services, you use Lync Server Management Shell or the Lync Server Control Panel. The Lync Server Management Shell is an implementation of the Windows PowerShell command-line interface with specific cmdlets for managing Microsoft Lync Server 2010 pre-loaded in the environment. The Central Management Server, which runs on one Front End pool or one Standard Edition server in your deployment, replicates configuration changes to all of the servers in your deployment. The Lync Server Management Shell and Lync Server Control Panel administrative tools are installed by default on each server running Lync Server 2010.

  • Hi Seniorsam. I'm not sure I understand your question. Is it possible for you to elaborate a bit more on what you want to achieve?

    You can route calls in Lync 2010 via voice routing by creating routes. You can control the routing using number patterns. More info here technet.microsoft.com/.../gg413081

    A user or a contact can be defined with a SIP URI and/or a mobile phone number. You can also use Outlook contacts defined with only mobile numbers. You can also add phone number contacts to your contact list in Lync.

             I have installed Lync 2010 in test lab(lync enterprise). I have 2 front end pools(pool1 and pool2) , in each pool i have one front end server, and 1 dedicated backend server.Now in each pool properties, under resiliency i have selected other pool as backup registrar pool. example for pool1, resiliency backup registrar is pool2 and for pool2 its pool1.

    Now i enable one of the user in lync control panel and assign user to pool1. so as long as pool1 is up the user is able to login. once i bring the pool1 Front End server down and from pool2 Front end lync control panel i move the user from pool1 to pool2 , the lync client shows a message  " limited functionality due to outage "

    i have set failure detection interval as 30 sec and failback interval to 60 sec.

    i have not used DNS load balancing neither HLB. i want the lync client to be up and active even though one of the pool goes down.. in my case the user remains logged in to lync client but with an error.

    how to fix this error ???
