i met with a customer and when we began discussing boot from vhd they had a lot of interest.  i pointed them to this blog post about boot from vhd, but as i reviewed it i remembered a couple other things like how to create a vhd from a wim.  msdn created a utility called wim2vhd which you can get from here.  it addresses my main issue with the vhd download – the dynamic disk size is too big for me to use on my laptop.  with wim2vhd i can quickly define my own vhd and then use the steps in my previous post to boot from the vhd.
